Dear Sir,

Re. Wind farm proposal at Gwynt-y-Mor, North Wales

As a local resident, I am writing to support the above offshore wind farm proposal.

I am very concerned about the irreversible damage that climate change will wreak upon the environment and landscape unless stopped. I worry about the effect it will have on my health and livelihood, and that of my friends and family.

New Scientist reports that 35,000 people died in Europe during 2003 due to extreme weather events associated with climate change, whilst the World Health Organisation estimates that 150,000 people die each year as a result of climate change impacts. David King, the UK Government’s Chief Scientist, has said that global warming is the greatest threat that we face - greater even than terrorism. Tony Blair has identified 2005 as the year when the G8, chaired by the UK, must urgently address climate change as “a top priority” describing it as “the world's greatest environmental challenge…so far reaching in its impact and irreversible in its destructive power, that it alters radically human existence".

To prevent the worst effects of global warming it is essential that we reduce our use of fossil fuels, which emit carbon dioxide, causing climate change. Every typical wind turbine installed in the UK produces enough clean, safe electricity every year to stop over 2,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide being released and to power over 550 UK homes. The turbines proposed for Gwynt-y-Mor promise even greater carbon savings and energy generation. Every wind farm built is an important step towards moving the UK into the clean energy future that we urgently need. Gwynt-y-Mor wind farm would be a vital part of achieving this clean energy future and preventing the catastrophic effects of climate change.

Please register my support for wind power and my support for the proposed Gwynt-y-Mor wind farm.
